Context: Inspired by conversations with NZ artist Meghan Jackson, reflecting on my personal journey over the past few years.

Words from the artist: I imagined how the 'me' many years ago would have found so much comfort and solace in the words and art I share today, knowing that she was never truly alone. The 'me' would have been so inspired to find someone who was a Mother of two small kids and struggled with her mind; creating, healing and building something for herself. It was in this moment that I realized that if 'she' found my work today, she would have to dig pretty deep and make assumptions to learn that I am a mother of two young kids and struggle with my mind at times. I guess I don't really talk about it so directly or even write much about motherhood and mental health, which is ironic as I experience both of these in my every day life. On reflection I think that sometimes it feels easier to use creativity to transmute experiences or feelings that feel uncomfortable - a poetic piece, written reflections or a piece of art. While these outlets are an amazing way to navigate painful or difficult human experiences, sometimes I think I hide behind my craft. It is a work in progress of unlearning shame and stigma, a journey filled with many layers of self-acceptance to remember the wholeness that is already there within.

This artwork is here to provide energetic support: as you practice extending the same empathy and compassion that you would extend to another; to yourself. Grace and space as you learn to witness and allow all parts of you.

Sink into a soft and cozy place within as you cast your gaze on the flickering flame. Feel yourself wrapped in cocooning nurturing energy as you draw from the qualities of the lotus flower. A symbol of resilience, beauty and strength. Even in the murky pond her roots connect her to the Earth, her heart open radiating light and truth into the world.

Words from the artist: "It can feel hard to care for ourselves at times but we are truly the only ones who understand and feel the needs of the child within; as that child is us. It is never to late to meet these needs and heal hurts of the past. In time with gentle compassion, curiosity, patience and love we can begin to nurture and nourish ourselves; reconnecting once again with our body and self.
